Story behind In the Groove Knee Re-Trainer Brace™
On December 4, 1998 I was on my way to work when BANG!
Apparently when you see an accident coming you stand on the brake hoping to stop in time. Unfortunately, I was still hit. Women have a different angle of their foot than men when standing on the brake. Men break their leg, women their foot. Those bolts go up the heel and to the top of the foot. I was in a wheelchair for years before a new to me physical therapist, Mel Svorinic, did a maneuver on my knee that allowed me to walk, albeit short distances, BUT I COULD WALK! I made a brace that did a modified maneuver and I WALKED into my next appointment. He said, I am good, but not that good. What did you do? I showed him the brace that I made and he was so impressed that he told me to patent it. I did.
The maneuver he did was the Mulligan Mobilization with Movement Glide (MWMG). Basically, what it does is to pull the lower leg one direction and the thigh the other direction to align them. In the Groove Knee Re-Trainer Brace™ has opposing stays in straps of an H shaped neoprene brace to do a modified MWMG while you wear your re-training brace during daily activity. It has been modified from the original and is available to help others with patellofemoral syndrome.
